Great Pyrenees need to be socialized with children as puppies. This breed is an imposing guardian but is gentle unless threatened or provoked. Great Pyrenees need large yards and are best suited to cold climates. Great Pyrenees are affectionate toward non-canine pets, especially cats!

The Great Pyrenees has been used by the Basque people of southern France and northern Spain for thousands of years. The Great Pyrenees is related to the St. Bernard.
