|Rescue Me ID: 18-01-20-00382Auggie (male)|
Auggie is 3/4 Great Pyrenees and 1/4 Anatolian. I am a dog trainer and our friends contacted me because they were having so many issues. They raised him from a puppy with no boundaries or structure and little socialization with people. He has bitten several members of the family. I took him to work with him and he has made a lot of progress. With me and my husband he has become calm, obedient and submissive to us. We taught him down, heel, wait, leave it and all the basic compliance commands. I have no problem checking teeth, trimming nails and grooming. He is now crate trained and shows the potential of a Great Pyrenees temperament. However, he is quick to want to bite strangers or people he does not respect. His aggression comes from fear and a long history of being the 'alpha' in his old family. They always accommodated his food aggression and would give up their seat on the couch or bed if he growled. This reinforced his aggression. He will never be a safe dog around children or people inexperienced with how to work with a dog like this. His aggression is quick with little warning and he will bite full on not just nip. I do not believe he can go back to his family and I had a long talk with them because they have a pregnant daughter, a large family and people coming and going. It's not a risk worth taking no matter how much they try to make changes or how much progress Auggie has made with us. I'm not trying to scare people but I want to be completely honest. This dog can be a danger to others unless he is with someone who knows what they're doing. Given the level of his aggression, he will have to be euthanized if I cannot find the right home for him. We would keep him but I work with children with autism and it is too much of a liability for him to be here (my clinic is in my house on our farm). (Less)

We rescued him when he was a puppy. We just can't keep him in the fenced backyard. We recently moved and our new location is on a very busy street. I am so afraid that he will be hit by a car. He was hit today but the car just grazed him. Next time he may not be so lucky. We love him but he gets out of our fenced yard regardless of what we try. He must go to a home that is in a rural setting or someone that can handle this escape artist.

|Rescue Me ID: 16-09-12-00588Maya (female)|
Maya is a 2 year old Akita / Great Pyrenees mix who is looking for a best friend and companion. She is a bit weary with new people but if you spend some time with her and show her there is nothing to fear, she will be your best pal. Maya enjoys to play with her toys! She loves to run after tennis balls and if they squeak that makes her very happy! She's a smart girl who knows lots of skills, such as leave it, sit and shake. Maya would do best in a home that has lots of time to give her as she's an active girl who will need lots of mental stimulation. She's about 50-60 lbs and is potty trained. Maya is interested in dogs & a dog with great manners will help her out. A calm home would be best for Maya as she startles easily. She is very sweet & wants to learn about how great the world can be! We suggest no young children. Interested? Please visit http://bit.ly/1m78fU5 to complete our quick online adoption application from your computer or desktop (not a phone). Maya's adoption fee is $175 & includes: Spay, vaccines, microchip, deworming, heartworm test, a wellness exam, a fecal test, & an offer of pet healthcare insurance for 30-days from adoption date. Thank you! (Less)
