Great Pyrenees need to be socialized with children as puppies. This breed is an imposing guardian but is gentle unless threatened or provoked.     Great Pyrenees Trivia: The Great Pyrenees was the official dog of the French Royal Court. Great Pyrenees were used to haul artillery over the mountains during World War II. The Great Pyrenees has been used by the Basque people of southern France and northern Spain for thousands of years. The Great Pyrenees is related to the St. Bernard.

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-21-00424Jackson (male)

Great Pyrenees Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jackson is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Jackson is currently fostered in Riverview, near Tampa. Hi, my name is Jackson! Foster momma asked me to talk about myself so that I can find my forever, so here is what I have to say as typed by her. I am a year old and 80 lbs, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, neutered, microchipped and heartworm-free! I have been told that I am a Great Pyrenees mix. The vet said I even have some Australian shepherd in me! I am not sure what that means, but to me it means that my job is to be outside protecting my territory. According to foster ... (Read More)momma, if I didn't have the pesky herding dog instincts fighting with the guardian instincts, I would be out with lots of grass eaters making sure that they stay safe from predators. Since I do have a lot of desire to make the grass eaters move, she won't let me stay in their pasture with them. On the other paw, she says that that instinct is also why I have never tried to escape my pasture, so I guess it isn't all bad. I am not sure if you know, but I came into rescue with a friend named Alien. He is a 110 lb Nubian x Saanen goat and we are best buds, but we do not need to be adopted together necessarily. I love to get attention when I am out with my goat and I bounce to get foster daddy's attention when he gets home, but when foster momma comes out to see me I get so excited that I bounce a lot. She doesn't like it when I do that because sometimes I forget that bouncing is OK, but touching her with my feet is a big no-no. Something about my size and her not wanting to be knocked down, but hey, a guy has to do something so that she doesn't forget that she has to pay the toll to walk thru my area. I won't let strangers come out where I am, because they could be ninjas in disguise, unless one of my foster parents comes out with them and tells me that they are allowed. I do not want any furry things getting into my food, so I let them know that they are not allowed. So in closing, if I could find the perfect forever, it would have friends for my friend Alien, and a way for me to be able to get around the property so that I can keep all of the ninjas away but not have to fight the instincts to herd. I would also be OK if Alien found a happy home somewhere else and I went by myself to a place with lots of room to roam. (Less)

Theodore is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Theodore is currently fostered in St. Pete. Theodore, affectionately known as Teddy, is a 1-year-old Great Pyrenees mix. He is a very happy boy and about 76 lbs, and will likely grow some. He is a goofball. He is somewhat dominant with other dogs around food, but this is easy to handle with feeding in a crate. He does fine with dogs of all sizes, but we really do recommend he not be homed with very small dogs just due to his size. He is shy with new people but warms up very quickly. He is also cat-tested and approved! Again, due to ... (Read More)size we do not recommend small kids for his home, but he does fine with the older kids in his foster home. He needs air conditioning as he is not heat-tolerant and would do best in a home with a pool. Teddy is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, microchipped and heartworm negative. (Less)
